Women's Rugby
Women's rugby is now one of the fastest growing team sports in the world. In total, more than 2.7 million women and girls play in professional leagues, at the Olympics, at universities and even in grade school. Grammar TEC formed its first since side in 2018 named as the 'Lionesses' entering into the Auckland Women’s 10 a-side competition, fast forward 4 years the team has grown its registered playing numbers and in 2021 joined the Premier competition.
Now in our fifth season, 2022 sees the Lionesses looking to build on the successes of 2021 and continue to compete in the Women's Premier Competition which is the highest club level grade and see our players move on to high representative honours. We have plans to introduce a second side in the Development competition, this will offer rugby to new players to the game, school leavers and players that want to play without the full commitment to a Premier programme.
So if you are looking for somewhere new and different to play or if you are returning after time away from the game, then GTEC is the club for you. 2022 is going to be a big year for the club also the Women's game as New Zealand hosts the Rugby World Cup and Grammar TEC has been selected as a host training venue for several the teams.
Our Lionesses coaches for the 2022 seasson are;
Karl Pokino (Head Coach)
Jason Thompson (Assistant Coach)
Jacob Hiko (Assistant Coach)
Jacob Curran (Assitant Coach)
