The Auckland 2018 end of season awards were held at Eden Park on Wednesday night, 24 Oct, and the club was happy to be in attendance. It was a beautiful evening and a chance for club representatives to mingle with other Auckland clubs and also meet a number of the Mitre 10 squad and members of Auckland Rugby Union.
Mitre 10 Head Coach Alama Ieremia gave a fantastic speech and highlighted his sides journey from the start of the year to preparations for this weekend’s final at Eden Park. We are all so proud of him and his coaching staff as well as the players and we wish them all the best for the final against Canterbury.
GTEC was proud to represent in the following categories:
U19 Player of the Year
We had nominees for the Auckland Under 19 Player of year: Tom Strachan and Felix Kalapu. Congratulations to Tom for being nominated - you had a great season and 2019 will be even bigger. Felix was the overall winner. He played strongly for U19's and also went on to get game time playing for Auckland B’s which caps off a great year from him, since leaving school last year. Coach of the Year
Congratulations to the coaching duo of Ant Strachan and Bruce Birtwistle who were nominated for coaches of the year for an outstanding and successful Under 20’s season, it was great they got nominated for their efforts.
U19 Development Player of the Year
Josh Wheeler was the overall winner and player of the year for the Auckland Under 19 development side, massive congratulations to Josh he continues to be a promising player and we look forward to seeing him playing again next year.
Southland Shield Award
Grammar TEC was nominated as runner up in the Southland Shield Award which is based on the three marquee teams overall finishing position in their respective competitions.
